16 April 2020

Shakila was born on 07.07.1997 and completed his school education (2003-2016) by Kingswood College, Kandy. Now he is an undergraduate of the University of Peradeniya, and following the BSc.Engineering Degree Program. He excels in Chess, Swimming, and Powerlifting in the university in addition to the academic work.

Shakila was a good team player in the Kingswood College Chess Team and the Team could become National School Games Under 19 Champions in the years 2014 and 2015, which was organized by the Ministry of Education. He could become the 1st runner up of Sri Lanka Schools Individual Chess Championship Under 20 Category in 2014.

Shakila is a member of the university chess team, which became Champions in Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) 2019 and 1st Runner up of Inter-Club Chess Championship 2019 organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.

Shakila says his loving parents support his success in multiple fields in the past as well as the present. He reminds his school chess coach Mr. Dulan Edirisinghe (former National Champion and one of the leading coaches in Sri Lanka) and, Mr. AS Galagamaarachchi, Mr. KPRN Samaranayake and Mr. Yasas Lamawansa (the former University chess captains) guided him to track into the correct route to progress in chess playing. He believes his background - all the chess friends have become a part of his progress.

This is one of the remarkable games he played for the University of Peradeniya Chess Team.
